10 Tips to Get More Retweets on Twitter

Posted in Marketing Tips

Everyone knows Twitter. Twitter is a popular social service for bloggers and webmasters. With the right social media marketing strategy you can use it to bring more traffic,  RSS subscribers and followers to their websites.

A retweet on Twitter allows you to share your posts with current followers and their friends. If your content gets a lot of retweets it goes far beyond your follower pool. In other words, if your blog posts gets a lot of retweets you can get a lot of visitors.

These tips will help you to get more retweets and bring more traffic to your site or blog. Here are my 10 tips to get more retweets.

1. Try to get more followers

One of the best ways to get more followers is to put icon with a link to your Twitter microblog on your website. If your visitors will like your blog posts they can easily follow you on Twitter. That will potentially increase the number of retweets.

2. Ask for a retweet

A small request for a retweet directly in the message will also increase the chances that your followers will retweet your message. This may look like this: RT please.

Do not use it in every message. It’s much better to ask for retweet only for your best posts.

3. Give something back

If you want to get many retweets do not forget to retweet interesting links from your followers. If you want to get something from your followers you should give something back.

4. Tweet at the right time

Best time to get more retweets is between 10 am and 5 pm. During that time most of your followers are online and they will be able to retweet your posts. I suggest you to publish your tweets at the right time.

5. Repeat most important tweets

If some of your tweets are very important you can repeat them later. In that case more followers will see it and you will get more retweets. Do not overuse this tactic.

6. Install a retweet button

If your blog posts do not have a retweet button I highly recommend you to install it so your visitors could easily retweet your articles and share them with others. Just google “retweet button” and you will find all information you need. I prefer Tweetmeme and official Twitter retweet buttons.

7. Thank your followers for retweet

It is important to thank first 6 or 10 followers who retweet your posts. You can do it via direct message. I like to write a separate message on Twitter where I thank first followers who retweeted my posts. You can also put a link back to their blogs from one of your next articles.

8. Do not use all 140 characters

Always leave a room for retweets in your Twitter messages. Do not use all 140 characters, try to write shorter messages and use URL shorteners like goo.gl and bit.ly. If you will use all 140 characters your followers will have no chance to retweet you. Leave at least 30-40 characters for retweets.

9. Follow the trends

You can join Music Monday and Follow Friday to get more retweets. These are just a few of many Twitter trends that take place on a regular basis

10. Use hashtags

If you want to get maximum effect from Twitter use hashtags in every message on Twitter. Actually hashtags are keywords that give more chances that people with the same interests will find your tweets.
